Artist's Statement

I find joy in the process of drawing, rather than in the finished product.

I experimented with oil paint when my mentors suggested a greater market for oil portraits than other media. I now use oil paint almost exclusively since it blends so nicely when looking for the exact skin tones I want to use in a portrait. I quickly learned it is an excellent medium for fabrics and I can produce a wide variety of backgrounds quickly.

When I use colored pencil it gives me the opportunity to combine rich colors in a way that intrigues the viewer. Colored pencil is blended on paper rather than the palette. Blending and layering adds richness and vibrancy to a picture. Patience is required when using this slow medium.
